Just went to see the film Kidulthood. Tells a story of inner city kids. It was, frankly, scary. Now I think most people who go to see it will probably dismiss it as a bit exagerated....however although it was almost by mistake that I ended up seeing it, it struck a chord. Now I had a private education for the most part and certainly never went to an inner city school. Funnily enough the film was set literally outside my front door and portrayed the school my partner went to. She used to regale me with stories of the goings on, and to tell the truth I thought she was exaggerating......until I met her friends etc and was faced with incontrovertible evidence.

For many years I would pontificate about kids and schools etc without having the slightest clue about what many kids have to go through these days. What is it like to spend your school days literally being frightened for your life? Yes pooh, pooh and all that but what if someone you know is carrying a blade or worse and you know they don't like you? What if there's a group of kids don't like you and set out to make your life hell? I remember when I was at school a girl having her jaw and nose broken by another group of girls and how shocked I was.....it wasn't even at my school, but this kind of thing is commonplace in some schools these days ( or common place just outside the school where it doesn't count then etc). The nastier things are just unbelievable.
It's not just in the school it's what happens between peers outside of school too.

Over the last few years I've increasingly become an advocate of banning private education in some form. I understand that many parents work very hard and feel they have no alternative but to educate their children privately and simply want what's best for them, and I think that's laudable and do not wish to judge them in any form, of course not. The reason my feelings have moved in the way they have is because I can see little alternative in order to create a level playing field and give all kids a chance. We have a suppos-ed labour government screaming about education and investing in kids, and yet what do they do? Send their kids private or wangle them into some top performing school!!! As parents I think that's entirely appropriate. However as politicians it is despicable and what message are they sending?? And this is my point....private schools are a get out clause for those who can afford it and means the rest get left further and further behind. If the people who are meant to be guiding these institutions to a better place are not faced with sending their kids to one, then naturally I think the pressure on them is lessened and thus the issue moves slightly down the agenda.

Let's be honest governemnts have consistently played double standards with education. Not just this government but all recent governemnts in this country. yes more money is being spent now perhaps but on what? On paperwork and bureaucracy for the most part. Teachers are being made increasingly impotent and given less and less leeway in how to teach. Standards are falling -YES they are. Exams are hardly exams any more. TB sets ridiculously high targets for numbers at university and drop out rates are at an all time high with university officials claiming entrants are simply not capable of undertaking the courses. Employers are now saying also that graduates are not of the calibre required.

For me the proof is in the pudding. Teachers hold a crucial place in society, and yet are still underpaid. There's a shortage of teachers, why? Because it's an extremely tough job in what is often a very tricky environment....and for not the greatest rewards. When you are continually being undermined by those who are supposed to support you it is very difficult to do the job for the love of it. My feeling is pay teachers more, have more of them, ensure schools have playing fields etc, make schools safe so have plenty of non-teaching staff around too. Stop the snobbery and understand that different kids have different skillsets. Appreciate those with a less academic skillset as much as those with and offer an education in suitable subjects and strive to ensure that all have a at the very least a minimum standard of reading and writing. As for having schools of excellence...well why not? As long as these a representative across the board - not just for academics.

Once all this is done then start worrying about giving exams to kids in nursery school or plucking some arbitrary number out the clouds for numbers who should be at "university". When I went to University there were polytechnics and tech colleges as well which all produced graduates with differing skill sets, some academic some more pragmatic some vocational etc. All human beings and worthy of respect. To me it was huge snobbery to turn all these different colleges into universities. All had very different functions each equally important. Hey but that's just me, TB obviously felt differently and felt that unless you went to an institution of a certain name and staus and earned a certain amount and wore a white shirt then you were some inferior being. Oh but then he would wouldn't he - after all he benefitted from a private education and is obviously superior.

Storm in a teacup? Personally I don't give a hoot if he believes in g(G)od or not - that's his choice. But one has to ask if this is more a reflection on HIS judgement, TB's that is. I mean given the fragile state of relations with parts of the global Muslim community and that TB saw fit to invade a foreign territory and that "crusade" was seen as an apt word to describe this invasion by the US President and, and, and......actually scrub all the above! What is more pertinent to me is that I, yes me, think that he should be more worried about how I judge him. I am part of the electorate after all. It is supposedly the electorate that gave him the power to make the decision to drop his bombs. Now, even if I didn't vote for him, he is still supposed to be representing me and my needs - at least on a foreign stage. Oh, but no, he answers to g(G)od not to "the people"!!!! It does begin to make sense though. This is why he went to war in the first place depite the fact that the majority of the population was against it (not to mention the UN) - because he heard little voices in his head and he felt that he was answerable to them!!!!!!

Now admittedly I have difficulty with the whole notion of g(G)od...but I don't try and force others to follow my view or insist that believers are mislead or whatever. However when I hear the elected "leader" of my country proclaiming to set his stall around what, I believe, is a mythical figure then not only do I feel insulted but also somewhat alarmed.

Further it brings up,what for me are, worrying thoughts vis a vis faith schools etc and TB's push for more and more of the damned things . Now these I do find offensive. Let's brainwash little peeps into believing in g(G)od as we see him/her/it and allow them to believe that without the fear of you know who, they'll grow into evil monsters. Maybe kids can have an education about all religions and if they feel the need to join one then let them as they grow. Don't send them to a single faith school so that they can become brain washed and entrenched in their own view of g(G)od and later grow up to run their country and then go to war with another sovereign state safe in the knowledge that they are not answerable to anybody but the g(G)od!!! Where does that leave the growing numbers who don't believe in g(G)od or believe in a different god!!!

My cat thinks I'm God (when I feed her).....hmmmm....mebbe that's why she poops in the neighbour's garden......

I read today that Ruth Kelly is preparing a paper proposing that prospective employers in the schooling industry....err, that'll be head teachers then, face a penalty of 5 years in jail for not checking references correctly. This is being done to set parents minds at rest. Does this mean that the self-flagellating, closer-to-GOd-than-the-rest-of-you one herself will be facing a stiff sentence? Is it not her department that has singularly failed to monitor and implement policies preventing paedophiles working in our schools? 3 words bad, rubbish, rid!

So we now have a lame duck PM. It's official....he's gone. Now I know that abrogation of responsibility has been the corner stone of this Government, but can somebody please explain to me exactly what is being achieved by having a dinosaur rattling around number 10? I mean we know he's going, he really went a long time ago, there's been rumour after rumour since he got in about a rift with Gordie and now his time is up...what he's staying for?. WHY? why why why why? Is there some record he's going for? Has Gordie realised that actually he's ruined the economy beyond belief, bird flu might be real, databases on gun holders and paedophiles are beyong governmental simpletons, hypocracy and lethargy are rife? Perhaps slimy old Gordie has had a doh! moment and realises the chalice he has coveted is actually little more than a pig trough! Or maybe TB is going for some kind of record....nah!! This Government has been thoroughly discredited on all fronts ....they have failed the health service, education, education, education, foreign policy, law and order, immigration etc etc etc....Remember the Tories of old and quangos and dishonesty....can somebodt tell me the difference? I mean Mandleson and Blunkett were both given numerous chances. We have an arms procurement minister that would probably be facing 25 years in a US jail if some allegation against him were ever proved, not to mention incumbent ministers now having totally seperate finaces from their spouse despite signing the dotted line.

So now the govenment has reversed its policy on water meters. Hmmmm....they themselves described it as a life tax but a handful of years ago!!!! And what of the water companies? Do not tell me we are in a drought due to lack of rain!! Not in this country...please!! Perhaps we can look at the efficiency of water collection and distribution as a root cause!!

Enuf enuf.........

 Comments

Right to Write

So Abu Hamza is a bad man and got 7 years....out after a couple. The whole world is up in arms one way or the other. Freedom of speech is at stake and the press say they should have the right to write what they want. Islam and the Muslim world has been offended by the printing of cartoons that are pretty insulting. So where to now? Further polarization of the global society is ongoing. Our "leaders" seem at odds as to what to do. Mudslinging abounds. The papers were wrong. Some of the militant protests by some Muslims were equally appalling.

I don't know what the answer is. What I do think is that we, in the West, need to make sure our side of the street is clean before we start taking the "moral' highground. I'm not sure that this out pouring of anger is entirely due to the "cartoons", though they are certainly part of it. Remember that Islam transcends political and country borders. Looking back, even in recent history, the West's dealing with the Middle East have been pretty heavy handed. Our dealings with the Palestinians and the Israelis do appear to be pretty one-sided. The formation of Iraq, the invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq, the failure to protect Muslims in Bosnia et al - and all this is not to mention some of the intricacies in our oil dealings. There are countless other examples of what could be taken to be "Western" interference etc.

Now what strikes me is how peeved I get some of the time at Western leaders. Bush and Bliar constantly irritate me. Yet they have not "invaded" my land and, Bliar at least, has been elected by my own people. How would I feel for example if say, Pakistan or China, for example, tried to tell my country it could not pursue a nuclear programme? Or maybe if Russia invaded because they beleived Bliar was a facist dictator...errr....hmmmm....maybe not such a good example! I get angry enough with Sepp Blatter sticking his nose in over the football and would quite happily give him a piece of my mind!! If he had been constantly interfering over the last 50 or 100 years or more, and in such an infuriatingly heavy handed way I might well be moved to give him a bop on the snout!! Would my action be justified? No, probably not. Would they be understandable? Yes sir!!! (I think anyway!!)

I'm not trying to condone the loss of life or the rioting etc over these cartoons. All I'm thinking is it is so easy to sit back an condemn it wholeheartedly and then not look to the lessons to be learned. It's not as if Christianity has not been through the same thing. Pre Descartes peeps were quite often damaged for even thinking of studying humans in a scientific manner!! Like I say I'm not trying to condone, but I do think we should do all we can not to create a breeding groung for the extreme elements. Perhaps the press might even stand up and occasionally do a positive story on Islam!

Guess what....the press deny it. And what's more he's wrong in his views on Soham. And he's not been in the job a year yet. And he shot a Brazilian electrician in Stockwell (or he told somebody to or something). And the proof is Damilola, Stephen Lawrence and Anthony Walker. See three examples therefore the press is right. Hmmmmmmm.......wotcha think? I think it's absolute, mind-boggling, unbelievable, inconceivable, total and utter hogwash. Look it's business. Whether it's ITN or The Guardian or the sun the majority of their customers,in absolute terms, are white. So their reports are going to reflect that. They want to sell copy. The proof it's institutional? Well it's in the denial. They don't even admit the logic of the business to themselves. And who loses? The "minorities"......how often do you see wonderful stories of Muslim kindness? How many stories to the papers carry of Muslim terrorists or "Mad mullahs" in comparison to their proportion in society.

If you are white and middle class and living in the countrified home counties - do you feel safer walking along a street at night if a white man walks towards you or a black man? What do you think it is that makes you feel this way??

Come on....realisticly society is institutionally racist....not just in this country but everywhere.....be it South Africa or Libya or Ireland. The media undoubtedly are part of this. But you know what....we are so shamed that we cannot even bear to look at it. My belief is that somebody who is "institutionally racist" is not necessarily beyond help and therefore evil. Perhaps they are just simply ignorant and a victim of their environment? Let's face it, being racist is in itself an admission of ignorance. Now if you commit a racist crime you deserve the full punishment of the law. Perhaps for those otherwise "nice" people who are unknowingly(or maybe institutionally) racist, black or white, then a bit of exposure to individuals from other cultures would help. Things are changing I believe/hope and we are more aware than we were, and I think all bigotries are and should be less tolerated than they were

Anyway back to my point. I find it almost hystreical that the press are so indignant about being accused of being institutionally racist. You are ! Face it! Learn from it and stop retreating into you bunkers of self-justification!!!!!!!!! Using Damilola, Stephen Lawrence and Anthony Walker to prove otherwise smacks of the line "Ooooh but some of my best friends are black!" (Gay,Differently abled, foreign or whatever).

Simon Hughes has covered himself in all sorts of stuff he didn't want to be covered in. Made all the worse by his previous stance when standing on a "Straight" platform. Not only did he lie about his own sexuality but he made others suffer for being open about it. He deserves everything he gets right? He deserves to be villified and hung out to dry right? Of course not. My observations on homosexuality (or being gay) are that it remains terribly difficult to "come out". Yes, thanks to the braveness of many, society is changing its view. It is easier than in the past. In fact if you are a female who is gay, hardly anybody notices. I think however it remains terribly difficult for alot of men. I guess not being female and not being gay and not really having many gay friends it is a bit presumptuous for me to assume this so I freely admit to be talking from a position of relative ignorance.

But I am a man. And I was brought up in a kind of Victorian enmeshment of values where it was ok to be whatever you wanted as long as you were normal and a real man and didn't have or show emotions. Where children were to be seen and not heard. Where you would burn in Hades if you thought improper thoughts and where a life of fear was the only way to keep God on your side.
It was a very normal upbringing, in many ways, for a man of my age. These messages were not necessarily written on advertising hordings for all to obey....but they were implicit in every facet of existence. Now what I do know was how hard it was for me to admit I had feelings of any type. I found it excruciating even to feel for a girl, let alone admit it. Inside my sides churned and I was confused. Knowing what I "wanted" was also very difficult. I came from a background where what I "ought" to do was the prevailng concern. This imbued me with many good qualities, but its legacy was a certain lack of awareness and an inability to read and trust my emotions. I ignored my emotions and tried to press on. But my emotions were real. In effect I was trying to ignore reality. Hmmmmm...not very clever really. Yet I am intelligent and have been pretty good at most jobs that I have done.

Yes Simon Hughes has made some mistakes. Yes he has been a hypocrite. Yes he has told some lies. But he has probably put himself through more pain than anybody. And it's now out in the open. So if you thought he was a good politician before, then why change your mind now. He will still be a good politician.

No. In my opinion the big problem here is the wanting to be a politician. For me wanting to be a politician is a sign of sickness and they should all be forced underground or locked away until they have been thoroughly rehabillitated and cured of their power-mongering ways and learned to live decent lives like, maybe, Rupert Murdoch or the entire executive team at Enron!

 Comments

Ejookashun!

Just watched This Week. Though I don't feel overly comfortable saying it, I do rather enjoy a "non politically affiliated" M. Portillo. I think he comes across OK. Tonight's discussion centred on....yup, education.

Now when it comes to education my own gut tells me a quick way state education will get sorted out is to stop private schoools. If all the people who send there kids to private schools suddenly faced the prospect of having them educated in the state sector they would most definitely make sure things changed! Funnily enough these peolpe tend to come from the "influential" classes. You know the type...went to single sex boarding schools etc. Now in my opinion that in itself is abuse...and these people (yes TB, that includes you) don't even know it. But that's a different argument.

There is another alternative though. Instead of sending everyone to university in order to make us all equal let's just assume everyone IS equal(!!!!!!).....irrespective of race, creed, colour, income bracket and so on. Surely if a street sweeper were treated with the same respect, say, as a £500k pa banker that would be a more equitable way to go about it. This is not so at the moment....just see who gets their issues mentioned quicker in PM"S Q time! Anybody doing a good job of work is worthy of equal respect no matter how much they earn or what they wear. For me the fact that TB and his merry men seem to think that having been to university makes you a better person or whatever reeks of snobbery and ignorance. When we had universities, polytechnics and other further education colleges were we not recognising peoples inate aptitude. If I'm good with my hands and have an aptitude for say bricklaying, does that make me a "worse" person than an estate agent? Hmmmm....methinks not. Let just see how useful being a Foxton's bunny is when trying to help in the rebuild after the Tsunami last Xmas.

Thanks TB for investing so much in some inane target for university attendance.....get the basics right, so we can all read and write, and then give ample funding so that those who are good at writing can write, those who are good at banking can bank, those who are good at helping others can help others, those who are good at selling ice cream can sell ice cream. And then praise us all equally for doing a good job. Don't just wait 'til 7/7 then say the fire service are wonderful people.....having just cut budgets drastically and put us all at risk from an average housefire let alone a major terrorist event.....or a burning oil depot....wrong type of fire for the foam and all that!

 Comments

Crazy Crazy World......?

I gotta wonder.....I read all this stuff about Sven Gordon and what a terrible person he is for talking to peeps about possible future job opportunities! Terrible....I'd never do that, would you? Is this just not another case of the press trying to make an issue out of a non-issue? I mean what is so wrong with discussing the possibility of a new opportunity? But this is the world we live in now.....the press runs it. Gone are the days when the pretense was that the press fulfilled a role that kept politicians et al in check and would highlight any injustices. It's all about selling copy come what may. It's easy to write a disaster and make all that gore and grime seem fantastically absorbing......it's a whole different issue making slushy stuff riveting.

Me, well I'd like papers split down the middle. In one half continue with the gore and sensationalism....in the other lets have some good news. There's plenty of it and it would be so nice to walk down the street with a warm glowing feeling of how wonderful people can be.

Gotta say on that point how moved I was by Linklaters and the family of the tragically murdered Linklaters lawyer. To set up a memorial fund in his name to help with the education of underprivelidged kids in London I think is just so dignified and respectful of human life. In all of the pain of his family and friends this was the result of what they feel is a fitting tribute to him. I am deeply moved. It IS a tragedy all round. That youth can throw away the life of another so cheaply is tragic, but it is also tragic that in this society there are people out there so damaged that murder is a run of the mill event. Yes part of reparation is the years of incarceration they will recieve for their crimes, and rightly so. However if we are to move forward we need to recognise that we are ALL part of society and we ALL have a responsibilty to it. That kids can be so feral that life means nothing is not just a reflection on their particular circumstances but is a reflection on us all. Not to blame or shame, but perhaps we all need to start putting something back. Something for nothing. Maybe some charity work or some youth mentoring. We can all point the finger but is our own side of the street perfectly clean. Let's look further than punishment......wouldn't it be nice to do something to prevent this kind of thing happening again rather than just tutting and pointing the finger when it does?

 Comments

Lazy, lazy, lazy.......

Gosh....how bad am I ? Been off line for sometime.....hmmmm and I think it's probably a good thing. TB and his merry men have been up to their tricks practically non-stop and I think apoplexy would have been the only answer apart from the amusement that were the libdems or dimlebs or whatever!! Happy new year to all.....and let's hope 2006 is 2006! Spent sometime over the hols checking my back for feathers as I was quite unwell....alas not for me the cheap checkout of a supermarket trolley....no bird flu on me.

Gotta say I never thought ranting about TB's lot could get so boring....but you know what? It is too easy!! Peeps are even waking up to the mess that Gordie has/is making of the economy......the press have turned and all agreement New Labour(?) had with Murdoch and his mucky morons have been torn asunder.

Enuf. To berate would be to legitimise...so for me...I think I'll ignore and move on.......but what ground to cover now? What to rant about?.....Well not usre really but will spend some time thinking and see.....obviously and input from anybody would be wonderful.....

He was passionate, riled and fluent. His detractors were left open mouthed. Wow! Hmmm....but in this case the detractors were the UKIP MEP's....horrible little people! TB's wonderful rhetoric? "This is not 1945, these people are our partners!"....hmmm again.....did he misread his history books....were we at war with europe or with europe?...Gadzooks!......I thought globalization meant the whole world is our partner.....that said CAP directly contributes to a child dying every 3 seconds in Africa......surely where the west preaches free trade we should practice free trade and not pander to the wishes of a few militant farmers and create mountains of waste! Instead of giving a small part of our over production back to keep a few in Africa barely alive, maybe we should stop subsidizing farming in Europe. This would remove the artificial trade barrier that African farmers face and allow them to compete. It allows dignity. It is fairer. A tiny proportion of the CAP budget would be all that is needed to retrain those farmers in Europe who are no longer able to be viable. We can then put pressure on the US to remove their grossly limiting farming subsidies. This in turn would be a step towards a level playing field - on a global basis. This on its own is not the answer to global poverty but it would allow some poorer countries to become self-sufficient and it is a start. Even if it means a child dying every 4 seconds in Africa rather than every 3 seconds do you know how many lives this saves? 7,200 a day!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's 2,628,000 per year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The CAP is a murderer!!!!!MURDERER!!!! Look this is real. If Europe and the US removed farming subsidies some of the poorer nations could compete. There is no argument to this. This is an horrific manipulation of the 3rd world. We force them to remove capital controls etc if they want investment blah blah blah but we keep these trade barriers in place to protect ourselves. This hypocrisy is killing millions and millions of children every year. If the developed world believes in globalisation and free trade why do we not live by this for ourselves. This is real. This is a terrible manipulation of those weakest in global society. This is a terrible sickness in the minds of the leaders of the west. Our own complacency means we are complicit in this. Millions of children are dying needlessly because I am too lazy to do anything about it! How does that feel. It feels pretty sick, huh?

 Comments

Naked Numpties!

Just watched a TV show about some fella who decided to walk the length of the country naked. He was with his girlfriend who he had only met the month before. What interested me was not so much thier personalities - they didn't come across as particularly endearing - but more peoples' reaction to them. On the one hand there seemed to be a fair amount of sympathy and support for what they were trying to do, on the other there seemed a certain madness. One woman attacked the narrator and left him with some painful looking scratches - the narrator (he was also the cameraman) was fully dressed. Other people hurled abuse, including some women who called the female "nakedee" a slag and a slut.

Now our intrepid ramblers were venturing into supermarkets and pubs etc and so were no exactly shying away from the general public and in the end somebody must have called the police. At one point the man was arguing with the cops and was heard to say " so what part of me is obscene? My arm? My elbow? What?". Hmmmm....I think he had a valid point. Why is there so much fuss made over the naked form. These guys were arrested I think 5 or 6 times on thier journey. They didn't finish it because he is serving a 3 month stretch in Scotland for not wearing clothes.

It seems there is some discrepancy in the interpretation of the law...in some places he was released immediately and in others, Scotland funnily enough, he was in more serious trouble. To me this whole issue reaches to very heart of the hypocrisy that characterises this nation (and others). Why is it such a crime to walk around in our natural state? I don't think I would necessarily do it as I tend to feel the cold - and it shows!! But why shouldn't we be free to if we choose?

Some people were saying "I don't want my children seeing that" and to a degree I understand where they're coming from. But why not? It is only a body. We all have them. Why should it be such a shameful thing? To me the fact that it's "shameful" for a body to be on display, even in front of children, is somewhat worrying and reeks of Victorian values. Perhaps if we could learn to love and appreciate ourselves as we are without shame we would be taking a step in the right direction. Is it some big conspiracy by the glamour mags in case we find out that nobody is like those air-brushed waifs on their front covers? Is it so the judges and politicians can continue with their "kinky" oddities behind closed doors. Let's face it most of these people went to single sex, boarding schools.....now that is abuse.

I really don't think that given the option I would choose to walk around naked.....but I don't think I should be arrested for it. Yes I know people will say what about flashers etc....well maybe they wouldn't get off on it if it was allowed...I think that's probably more about repression...errr and I think we've known for some time that repression is behind alot of the problems in society......

 Comments

Got It!!

Finally I've figured it out!!! TB is simply very, very thick. This privately educated nincompoop(?) actually has one of those inbred genes. Think about it...the energy minister does not sit in the cabinet.....yet this man thinks he can spin nuclear energy as a viable proposal. This stuff has a half life of 1000's of years.....we supposedly are having a terrorist resurgence....errr???? This is an industry that went bust a couple of years ago....AGAIN..the enrgy minister does not sit in cabinet - that means they do not think he is important......we are being told we are about to have the coldest winter for decades...global warming is an issue and nuclear power - chernobyllys cousin...-is the answer? oh by the way we are going to ignore the pensions report that we commissioned- errr.. nuclear power is great............don't think about working til 67 cos there is a pensions shortfall exactly equal to what gordie taxed the pension industry....oi , yes you, oi i said NUCLEAR POWER!!

Then I wandered back and had a good look in the window. It must have had hundreds of different style of knives; from little itty bitty fingernail scrapers, thru hunting knives of all wondrous serrated imaginables, right up to virtual swords. Hmmmmmmm.........what a wonder knife crime is such a huge problem in this country. The shopkeeper said he sold well over 20 of these things a week. I also heard that on MacKyntyre's Dangerous Cities. Now I wonder (again) how much demand there is from genuine animal skinning hunters in this country. Not much I would think. These knives are obviously being purchased for a somewhat shady purpose. I'm sure not all purchasers are out to stab the nearest, suitable person and in fact I'm sure an awful lot of them never leave the testosterone steeped teenage bedrooms of many of the buyers. However a fair few do. And when they do there is always a chance that the owner is going to end up doing something he regrets (charitable huh?) and leave somebody else leaking somewhat.

Now I know peeps can always go and buy a kitchen knife so there's no point banning them!?!? or licensing them etc.....B****x!!! Restricting these weapons may not be THE whole answer but I think perhaps it might be a little help and a small part of the answer.

Why am I suddenly getting uptight about this? Well apart from certain tragic stories I've read of late I am about to take TB and his very merry men up on their kind offer of 24 hour drinking!! And you know what? The last thing I want is to see my hard earned cash emptying shower like out of my belly when I've just finished drinking it!

 Comments

Toastie Warm!

Hmmm....nuclear power......with melted butter and honey........TB's legacy gotta be good! Talking of TB must mention under strength vaccines of same, the name Paul Drayson, now a Lord, single biggest individual contributor to New Labour, his company was Powderjet....hmmmm weren't they dodgy? alot! Well he's now the Minister for Defence Procurement. So gimme some money, i'll overlook you ripping off the country, both monetarily and medically, I'll make you a Lord, none of those tiresome election thingys and then you can become a minister mate, friend, buddy, crony! How does defence procuremnt sound? Think we need some of those body armour whatchamecallems in Iraq.

Oh by the way how dare Iran think of using nuclear power for energy!! Bloody cheek, they're foreign and all that. Hmmm methinks we need a war!! Make note to self, remember to go to war with Iran on monday!!!

I'm getting really bored....could you tell.....it is simply no fun anymore....

I actually laughed t'other day at Cameron sticking it up Paxman....'bout time too the ignorant one-dimensional windbag (you figure out which one)but then caught myself....can't do that he's a Tory....they're scary....they went to war (errr...legally?), they weren't nice to teachers or miners or steelworkers or doctors...and that's terrible....so better stick with TB....he's only bad for errr....ummmm....everybody?

Still not long 'til Gordie, then we can all work 'til we're 98 and live in a shoe box on his estate and act as beaters in the grouse shooting season!

zzzzzzzz.........really, very, very boring.....

Ooooh nearly forgot....thanks Pinguina for your suggestion of an ice in drinks tax!! It's a wonderful idea and renewable too!! Anymore ideas for Gordie to raise some revenue let me know..........

This strikes me as rather an odd thing to say. Read it again. Is this a tacit admission by Mr Bliar that he'd normally do the wrong thing rather than get beaten doing the right thing? Either way, John Reid thinks this whole issue has enhanced TB's reputation. Hmmmmm......guess he'll be a cabinet minister then.

Anyway more important stuff. The Jordanian capital was hit today by some of those minds twisted by the hatred of impotent old men purporting to represent Islam. A muslim mum lost all her children. A muslim groom lost his father and father-in-law and stated "this is not Islam". Indeed it is not. Let's face it Osama Bin Laden is a billionaire. Didn't he do well....he has personal issues and if caught would spend the rest of his days in a sanatarium. Most of the thugs who supposedly do his bidding have done time for rape or paedophilia or othe such niceties. However the people who blow themselves up are young men. Simple as that. Young men are traditionally passionate and raging with hormones. You see it every time a few get together for a drink. You've seen it in countless demonstrations over the years. Otis Ferry even got excited about losing his right to watch foxes torn asunder. I thought about joining an organisation in NI largely because I had an Irish girlfriend when I was young. Young men make up the army.

Now if these young men are allowed to be influenced by twisted minds - Nazi youth etc - then the outcome will be brutal. Throw into that melting pot real issues of disenfranchisement etc and there will be trouble. For a long time politics were not allowed into schools, for this very reason. We know stuff will happen when young minds are perverted. The Koran is actually a relatively moderate guide to life - but anything is open to interpretation. The Bible has been used as an excuse for violence for centuries....and look at the old farts who encouraged that, yup, impotent old men.

For me there is no single answer. the wealth gap needs to be addressed, these perverts who prey on young minds needs to be sorted, the youngsters need to be shown the other side of the coin, the Police do need legitimate powers to combat those who slip through the net, Muslim scholars need to stand up an be counted, the US need to look at the way they support the State of Israel, the State of Israel needs to look at the way it conducts its affairs, Islamic leaders and States need to look at the way they conduct theirs , parents need to look at their kids, new religions (particularly the media) need to look at the way they present their cases. We have a collective responsibility. Them and us don't work. It's just us and us, we're all in it together. In this country we don't even seem to be able to treat the obvious victims of these atrocities with much respect.

Hmmmmm......respect....whatever happened to that....

 Comments

Next Please!

C'mon on down Gordie, the merrymen need a new leader, your time has come. Now, let's start with the patio tax........you have got to be kidding right?
No? OK well let's see if we can help you out.....we're gonna develop a list of silly taxes for you to reel out in your inaugural speech....things like.....
cat hair tax
no. of legs on a dining table tax
duvet tog tax
self-help tax
irritating larf tax
self-righteous tax
angry tax
funny walk tax.........

actually , you know what, some of these aren't bad!!

Any ideas?

Quick question: does that mean terror don't exist no more? Or are you just too hugely incompetent to be able to legislate against it effectively?

Gonna look good on your CV:

Lame duck with huge experience of mis-management and deceit. Notable train wrecks: the uk. Seeks permanent position preferably directorship with tobacco company or Murdoch plc. Oh by the way Rupert, do you like what I did to the Beeb?

Ciao T,

Luvinit xx

That childminders would teach the curriculum from birth? Holy Moly Batman, the rugrats are gonna get it. Can somebody please explain to TB that when he stands accused of creating a nanny state....that is NOT a good thing. He doesn't have to take it a step further. My skin is crawling. How far into the bedroom does TB want to push?

Now like I said this is a new one to me, and my ignorance may be blurring my intuition, but not satisfied with messing up University education (sic), lowering standards for exams for entry to university, increasing student debt and drop out rates, confusing employers, generally underming the entire education system...he now wants to extend his influence to babies? Will our next generation really be influenced by a curriculum based around TB and his cronies' thinking? Why? What for?

I see some are worried that the curriculum may be too "prescriptive". How can it be anything but? Babies are spoon fed. Certainly will be now. Think about the hugest period for growth in life....yup baby time! Is he really contemplating interfering with this so that he can set more bloody targets!!??? This is an absolute disgrace. This makes GO's 1984 look like Butlin's holiday camp. Parenting classes, perhaps. Baby classes? You have got to be kidding Mr Bliar!!

I would quite happily be preaching uprising and spontaneous protest. Bring down the government. Civil Disobedience. Non-payment of back passage taxes, but obviously I can't suggest any of this as due to the new "terror" legislation I would face 3 months behind bars with no recourse. Errrr....d'ya not remember internment Mr. Bliar???????????

People wake up!! This government is an absolute unmitigated disaster! For all you "oh but Mrs Thatcher" woolies...she's nearly dead.....smell the coffee. Look around you....violent crime up, truancy shattering all records, nhs creaking, education lacking, taxes soaring, blah blah blah....oh but at least the damned foxes are a bit safer now!!! You can't even stand in parliament(al) square 'cos there's even a new law against that.......even the BBC has been shattered by the merry men....and why? because they had an opinion on the suspicious "suicide" of a gov scientist who had the temerity to suggest that TB's excuse for war might of been based on the kinda stuff that fills babies nappies......and they were right!!! EXTERMINATE EXTERMINATE.......even Dr Who is more believable than this bunch clowns......Statesmen???? I'd rather have nappy rash!

 Comments

The Angels Cometh!

Confession time. I got into self-help. It's a long, boring story, but the upshot is that I still receive e-mails from the self-help community. I thought that perhaps sharing one I got today would be interesting. It was entitled "Your Angels Are Calling You" and it was extolling the virtues of a lady called, wait for it, Dr Doreen Virtue. Now apparently this woman can open you up to such a degree that your angels will talk to you and give you the life you wish for and deserve. Apparently this really works. If you need proof apparently her car and herself were once being hijacked by masked gunmen and her "angels" told her to scream! She did and you know what? People came a runnin' and the gunmen fled and she was saved!! Wow, I'm blown away. If you want to learn how to have your "angels" help you all you need do is pay $239, which is a saving 'cos the general public would be paying over $300!! Now how's that for a bargain. I actually received this e-mail today, honest.

Thinking about this I think maybe TB and his merry men have had some training in this. You know University for all, great and we'll throw in a lowering of standards so that a 7 year old can go if they want. NHS waiting lists shortened!!! We'll simply stop more people being added. The war is illegal, not any more we're gonna call it legal. Pensions crisis, because we knicked money from the pension funds. Council tax up this year, the special provisions were only for election year. 45 mins - snigger, snigger! Immigration, there is none. Prisons crowded....let's reduce sentences. Blunkett resigning, oh yes let's release info telling us you have to wait 48 hours for the police to call - nobody'll notice.

Car tax, road tax, petrol tax, congestion charge tax, council tax, pensions tax, savings tax, interest tax, vat, national insurance blah blah blah...but this government is PROUD of what they have achieved. Mark my words ....they need another war so the lemmings are distracted. New pm new war....the sooner Bliar goes the sooner we can have another war....Come on Gordie we is waiting!!!

A question for anybody to answer....why is it when I bemoan this government to otherwise decent people so many of them come back with Thatcher this or Tories that??? When was Thatcher in power? The Tories don't even know who they are, themselves. Who gives a XXXX? This government can do no wrong 'cos Thatcher did once? OK tell you what...give me $239 and I'll introduce you to some nice angels!!

 Comments

Blunkett Is Not Stained!!

....at least according to Tony Blair. Let him go forth with no stain upon his character.....my nether regions. This man cannot even now understand where he went wrong. Let me help you. Kimberley Quinn, nannies, shares, trust funds.....hmmm the Ministerial codes.....but that's for ministers isn't it? Not deity. Twice in a year? Mr Blair where is your judgement? Remember p. Mandy?

Now Mr Blunkett is being described as an exotic socialite instead of a megalomaniac fascist. The politicians loved him - nuff said!

"The people are the masters we are the servants" said Mr Blair in his inaugural speech....what a load of poppycock! Does anybody, the "people" included, really think this bunch of jumped up self-interested, self-serving, self-important, self-obsessed egoists really give a damn about anything apart from themselves? This "people" for one will be gald to see the back of the lot of them....mandy, Blunkett, Bliar - when he finally does the decent thing - Brown when he finally inherits an economy in recession and is forced out. They are a bloody disaster.

Blunkett was a bully who rode rough shod over decency. Power went to his head. Just think...if you or me were given another chance, would we not make sure we were squaky clean? Not DB - is that arrogance or stupidity, whichever they're not attributes I want for anyone with power over me.

No doubt there'll be a few inquiries into the affair at great cost to the tax payer which are all totally ignored - or changed to support the government's view - you know like in "illegal to go to war" becoming "it's ok" ....we're still paying for the illegal war, there's a huge hole in the pension provisions - equal to what Brown has stolen in tax from the pension funds, education standards are continuing to fall, 50% at university becomes 50% drop out of university, targets, targets everywhere and not one of them reached....blah blah blah .....I can't even be bothered......though one prediction....Bliar will end up with a ranch in Texas or an estate in Florida.

Get bloody rid of them.

 Comments

Death by hood!

The youth of today huh?! Aren't they terrible. Uncouth yobs. Gun toting gangsters. The nerve of walking around with their hoods up - practically murder, cage the lot of them. Bring in legislation banning the hoods!! Dontcha just love our nanny state? I read an interview with a US cop in Florida recently. He was asked if he thought all the laws were detrimental to common sense. His response? "If you got enough rules you don't need common sense"!!!!! The Govenor of Fla??? Hmmmmmm........

Anyway back to the youth. Isn't it funny how youth is referred to in the 3rd person. They or them. Obviously they are not part of our society. They are just a problem. Did you know they just mysteriously appeared out of the ether. Nobody invited them, or invented them or wanted them. I know let's legislate against them. They can't wear clothes, or have playing fields at school, or youth centres. All they're allowed is playstations and mobile phones. Let's pillory them at every turn. Let's blame everything on them. Let's make them live on estates unfit for humans and make them hang around with pimps and dealers. Let's not teach them to read or write, or show them any care or concern. Let's give them asbo's when they rebel. Let's make sure they're never taught basic life skills. Let's take away hope for a better future. Let's take away hope full stop. Let's make them feel ugly and show them they'll never be on the cover of vogue or cosmo. Let's mess with their heads and tell them the only way to be successful is to make loads of money and hate your granny. Let's let them know they'll never make money. Let's tell them all men are potential rapists and all women are loose. Let's make David Blunkett home secretary and David Beckam rich. Let's make them listen to Prince Phillip.

If this doesn't make them right, then we can feel very smug and roll our eyes and shake our heads and sigh at the dreadful youth of today.

 Comments

Who Do You Think You Are Kidding Mr. Blair?

Disgraceful all round I say! Firstly Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, President of Iran, is no statesman and his rhetoric concerning the State of Israel is to be condemned wholeheartedly - it was an absolutely horrific thing to suggest. This man, however, is a fanatic and is entirely unstable. Like all extremists his view is clouded by hate and ignorance and he spreads his dis-ease through a cloud of fear and deceit.

Tony Blair however portrays himself as a reasonable man and the voice of reason. Yet yesterday he stooped to new lows in his pursuit of spin. After a lacklustre meeting with the lacklustre leaders of the EU, Blair needed a distraction. What better way than escalating an already tense situation - in public. Thinly veiled threats at military action have no place in this domain. If he wants to get a message across there are plenty of channels to go through. Do you really back a rabid dog into a corner and expect not to get bitten? What was said and threatened by the Iranian premier was abhorrent and by far the worse performance of the two "leaders". But Mr Blair's manipulation of the situation for his own cynical ends was pretty awful and not entirely statesman-like and highly unlikely to help resolve the situation.

I fear these bully boy tactics on both sides. These elected so-called leaders of the masses seem to becoming more Neanderthal by the second...at least as far as their solution space is concerned. I guess we're back to "brinksmanship is cool" and the populace be damned!!!!

 Comments

Blair's Suez

Hmmmm.....so the troops keep dying. Still nobody has bothered to count the civilian deaths over there.....was there really not a better way to remove Saddam? Oh well Tony is proud his relationship with Bush is really rather soopa.....probably get an honorary ranch when he finally goes.......Cherie continues to be criticised for her charitable work....Mrs Blair earned a fair amount in Australia...pity the Cancer Charity she was working for is now under investigation as more money went to Mrs Blair than the charity. I do hope they sleep well having bought their jolly expensive house. Oh and by the way I'm sure Pakistan is very thankful for the 3 chinooks we're sending to save the 3 million. Apparently none are spare as they're all busy fighting an illegal war!
